About Austin: Austin and his sister Emma are under the care of different aunts. The boy lives with one of his aunts and his sister Emma lives with another aunt. Their mother is a drug user, has not been responsible for her children, and their father is deceased. Aunt Maritza is responsible for the child, but she needs to work and does not have anyone reliable who can help her take care of him.

Austin is an 8-year-old boy from Medellín with a noble heart and great determination. He describes himself as someone who truly enjoys fun and learning. His favorite food is pizza. He has a very special motivation: he wants to be a professional soccer player to be able to financially support his mother. His greatest wish is to progress through the stages within the home to have more autonomy in his favorite sport. He defines the foundation as a very good and fun space, and he invites others to discover this place full of life.

Austin recently joined Hogar de Cristo due to a complex family situation. Following his father's passing and his mother's inability to care for him due to addiction struggles, Austin and his sister Emma were left in the care of different aunts. His aunt Maritza, responsible for raising him, sought the foundation's support due to her need to work and the lack of reliable support networks for his care. At the home, Austin has found the stability and guidance needed to focus on his development and education.

What's new in school? Austin has shown remarkable enthusiasm for his studies since joining. His favorite subject is Mathematics, an area where he feels he has learned many new things in a short time. He deeply values having access to a dedicated education room, seeing it as a space of opportunity where he can strengthen his knowledge to achieve his future goals.

What does he do after school? He is a very active boy who integrates easily into the home's sports dynamics. He participates with discipline in soccer training and also engages in basketball games with his friends. Additionally, he enjoys contact with nature, showing interest in caring for and observing the plants and trees surrounding the foundation.

What are his sports and hobbies? His great passion is soccer, where he plays as a forward. He deeply admires Ronaldinho, and his favorite team is Brazil's national squad. His favorite place at the foundation is undoubtedly the sports field. In his free time, he also enjoys group games with his peers, always focusing on movement and healthy competition.

No. Unlike most of the other child sponsorship programs, we allow a child to have multiple sponsors. Other sponsorship organizations provide many wonderful services for their children; food, clothing, education. We are a little bit different in that we are operating a Home for these kids and thus also provide them with a place to live, staff to cook food for them them and teachers to educate them.

What happens if a child leaves the home?

Many kids at the home are in volatile situations where they may have family members in the area, but are unable to provide for their children. Although we are given guardianship over the children, family members, according to Colombian law, maintain their authority. If a family member arrives to claim responsibility, we are obligated to relinquish the child to them. If this happens, you will be notified and your sponsorship will be moved to a new child, so that you can continue helping children.
